    When starting Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition I get the following error;

    Package Load Failure

    Package ‘Visual Studio Explores and Designer Package’ has failed to load properly (GUID={8D8529D3-625D-4496-8354-3DAD630ECC1B} Please contact  vendor for assistance. Application restart is recommended, due to possible environment corruption. Would you like to disable loading this package in the future? You may use ‘VWDExpress/resetskippkgs’ to re-enable package loading.

    After Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition loads, I only have HTML in the toolbox and I cannot see the properties at all. Since I do not have any of the other tools available such as Standard, Data, and Validation etc, I also cannot seem to use any of the code. Could someone help me on this, anybody else having this issue? This is on a Windows XP SP2

    I have ran VWDExpress /resetsettings, but this did not seem to solve the issue.

    I am going to uninstall all the components and reinstall them.

    I know I had a similar problem on one of the beta releases, and re-install did fix the problem

    I've had the same problem. So far I tried reinstalling, that didn't work, I uninstalled both the version 1.1 framework and the version 2.0 then reinstalling, but that didn't work. I think the problem I'm having is that I had beta 1 installed, and there is something left over from that, which is not being replace when the full product is being installed and this causes the package failure.

    I've tried running the clear-up tool that you can download from Microsoft, but as I have used beta 1 that didn't clear the problem, it seems to only work on beta 2.

    I'm going to see if I can find a list of the assemblies I can manually delete to get the full thing to work, or I'm going to reinstall the operating system, and hopfully that will clear all parts of the beta.

    Sad [:(]

    I finally got this working last night, all I did was delete the duplicate assemblies from the %windir%/assembly directory. Once I deleted them all I restarted Visual Web Developer and it worked first time, no problems. I then installed C# Express on top with no problems either.

    Sure, when you look in the %/windir%/assembly there are a number of assemblies with the same name. You can only delete/uninstall the one currently not being used. Once I went through all of these I restarted VWD and it worked without any package errors.

    Hope that helps

    Thanks ForrusMoth! You also soled my problem.

    What I did is select ALL files and in that "assembly" folder and then select "uninstall". This will uninstall all assemblies that are currently being used (in my case, it uninstalled about 300 some assemblies files and still have 400 some files will not be able to uninstall). After that, the VS 2005 is working! I "repair installed" the .Net Framework and VS 2005 (just in case I may missing something due to the uninstall assemblies). It is working great now!

    This led me think why Microsoft did not find this problem when people doing the beta testing! Microsoft now should let everyone know that they should uninstall the old assemblies to fix the same problem many people have.

    Thanks ForvusMoth again!

    For me, the problem was caused by changing the default installation directory for Visual Web Developer Express.  The Reporting Add-In does not give an option for where it installs.  I uninstalled VWDE and reinstalled using the default path and then uninstalled and reinstalled the Reporting Add-In.

    Problem fixed.
