What I would like is a calendar that works like this:

--entries contain a short title and (alternately) a time of day that will be displayed in "Calendar view"
-- entries contain a longer "description" that will be displayed in a "details" view that appears adajacent to the calendar.
-- User clicks on an entry in the calendar, and the adajacent details view shows the details of the event.
-- Ties to a meeting scheduler like the one at DNNWROX.com would be nice, but the calendar is the big need.

This is for a site I'm building for a non-profit, and donating to them, so "free is best", but I'll negotiate the rest.

This calendar should fit your bill (and more). The AVCalendar DNN Module been a great project for DNN for years.

I am looking for a Calendar module that like various Articles modules will allow registered users to submit an event for approval.

Approval can be set to certain role/s, once approved the event appears in the calendar.

Does anyone know of a module like this, I thought AVCalendar sounded promising but you can only create an event if you have edit permission on the module.

The AVN Calendar mentioned above has that feature. It is also going to fulfill my need. It's a great module. I plan to donate to support it.

Has anyone made any fixes to the issues I've seen here and there on the forums? So far, I've encountered these.
    • Recurring events don't work
    • View event detail doesn't maintain applied skin. In my install, it uses the applied admin skin
    • Can't seem to view enrolled users in the admin. I think mine was set to moderator and I approved a test enroll, but it doesn't show up.

there may be some others, but i think those were the show stoppers for me.

I'd be willing to kick in if someone plans to fix these. I'm about to go back to the Bookable Events newest version if it now supports deletion of event. My current one (3.1) doesn't want to allow that. But I also have to make modifications to the app to get rid of the "classes" references, as my intended users don't have classes.

I like some aspects of the SmartThinker, but it's a little too informal for my users. AV Calendar would perfectly suit my needs if those three items worked correctly.

I tried all the various DNN calendar/event modules I could not find one of them that worked well enough to put infront of users or manage. I did a search and found a .Net calendar control that gave me most of the features of the MS Office calendar including task, day, week, month, and year views. The control is from http://www.mediachase.com. It's not a free control but it is well worth the fee depending on your situation. All I needed to do was to drop the calendar onto my module design view, wireup the datasource, bind to the control and I had recurring, spanning items, holidays, and special events handled. It's very customizable in terms of style settings and they provide a full blown VB.NET and C# application "that works!" You can use it as a great sample to see how simply that handle trickie things like recurring events and graphically creating calendar views with events that span multiple days.

The trickiest part was creating the edit/add event control for my module. I had to support school bell schedules and merge those with the control's timeview so rather than events starting at 9:10am the timeline says Period 3, for example. Anyways, hope this helps and doesn't distract you too much.

    Mod away!

Thanks for the input, Ralph. I looked at the site and it does seem like a great tool. I really didn't want to get into that, but it may end up that way. It's disheartening to discover how little there is in terms of event w/registration out there.

I ended up going ahead with Bookable Events 3.3. I already had 3.1, but when I would try to delete an entry it wouldn't. 3.3 fixed that, but now the issue is that when I added more than one event, only the first one shows sessions, thereby preventing users from registering. Currently I'm in the kicking help emails back and forth concerning the DNN environment etc.

I don't think my needs are that extraordinary, given some of the forum posts I've read. I simply need to be able to add an event, including time, one time or recurring, description etc, allow registration and be able to view the registrations.

I saw a post by Nina recently, stating that Catalook ecommerce had an event registration component. I may end up there in the end, but I don't want to have to go through the blood letting ritual that is said to be the set up of Catalook.

Question. Are you doing registration on your version or just presenting it to the user?

Thanks again for your input. I'll end up bookmarking the site you gave for future reference.

    Tyler
