Is there any way to define a module such that I can pick the pages to display it on?

For example, I have a page called "Documention."

Under it I have a number of child pagess that all include some kind of doc.

What i'd like to do is include a module on the left column that will show up on only those pages that are set under the Documentaiton section.  It would need to be included on any pages that might also be a child page to the child pages of the "Documentation".  In other words it would cascade down any level from "Documentation."

To select a page and have it automatically show on any cascaded children would be perfect but even if I could choose on  page by page basis would be great.  Actually I could see more use of being able to define a module to show on a page by page basis.

http://www.xd.com.au/dnn3+hot+tip.xd  - registered users can log in and download the movie to see how easy it is to copy information between pages in your site.

You are correct - it's all or nothing when setting the module via the module settings, however, you can export modules and then import to other pages, or you can copy exsiting modules from other pages, including content and display on the page you're working on - it's such a good work around.

    So the choices are
    - Create a document module, change the name of it - via the settings page, add your docs and then use the export funcation and it will export that module, giving it the title as per your module settings, (which is why I suggest you change the module title name immediately so you don't have everything as *module* ) Then, on your new page, simply add the documents module, and then use the import funcation and import back in.

    - Or copy modules from an existing page, with or without content -

    Hope this helps.

I know under DNN 2 there was the 'Shadow' module that took an existing one and placed it on any other page. Kind a like the 'display on all', but just not 'on all'. It was from Jeremy (at Webstone), but his site doesn't seem to be up...  Worked like a charm.

Inventua has one too (DNN2 and DNN3) that is 'based on the ideas but not on the code from the Webstone module'. Anyway, didn't use that yet.

Thanks xddg. Curerntly I was just using the export and import.

The Inventua Shadow that npeeters worked perfectly.

Now I am off to see if I can find some kind of menu option like the TreeView where I can define the structure itself to put sub-menus below the main menu that looks the same.

I am also off to look at shopping carts that can assign roles based on products purchased.  I know xddg mentioned the Catlook in one of her messages.  I am going to give it a try again.  I tried the trial download once but I kept getting errors during the install of some of the modules.  The CAT_StoreStettings and CATALookStore modules installed perfectly but when I tried the CAT_Modules, I kept getting errors.

Is this DNN 3? If so, I don't see what the issue is. It is Not All or Nothing with DNN 3. The core team basically implemented the Shadow Module functionality from DNN 2 into the DNN 3 core.

When logged in you see the options at the top...Add New Module or Add Existing Module. So go to the page you want and place a New Module on that page. On the other pages, hit the Add Existing Module radio button. It will give you the option to select the page that contains the module and then post back the modules on that page for selection. Just Select the module that you installed on the first page. Then when you change the Module on the first page, it will update the other instances of this module. I am doing exactly what you need using Core functionality out of the box, so if you have questions, post back.
