User-customizable pages ala "My Yahoo" style! Have any of your users ever wanted to:

    • Have their own webpage and keep a list of their favorite links and websites?
    • Store their own photos in a photo album or keep a blog?
    • Put a picture of their pet cat on the front of your website and you said no?
    • Make a webpage with their own choice of colours and layout?

Well Smart-Thinker HomePage makes this all possible and more! Try the DEMO here...

Update: Version 4.0.1 for DNN 4.x has now been released...

At the click of a button, a new page is created for a user. They are given a scaled-down control panel and can add modules from a list specified by the administrator. If you have a core or third-party module on your website then you could let your users use it! A user has full edit rights over their HomePage and can move modules around, add and delete modules and edit the content in their modules till the cows come home!

Smart-Thinker Subscribers have access to ALL Smart-Thinker modules and resources (including our newly released Events module)! We want our subscribers to play an active role in the direction of our products; in fact, Smart-Thinker HomePage was the result of a subscriber request!

If you are a subscriber then please submit your future requests on the Forums

This is the most revolutionary module I have seen for Dotnetnuke. You will have my $20 tonight. I cannot wait to install this module. I was working on a photo album for each user of my portal but why bother? I can simply use this module and just give them access to basic modules.

The ONLY issue is that “one role per user”. It is not the data or the fact that my admin screen will look crazy with 100+ roles, it’s being able to convert all this if this structure gets incorporated in the core.

Anyway, I wish I had thought of this because it’s genius.

Rodney, you have some nice looking modules, but if I may make a suggestion.........

Get a seperate domain and site specifically to handle the sale, download and support of your great modules instead of mixing the content with your already exisiting site and information.

Nothing personal, I just don't feel comfortable enough with your site to spend my money even though I want to.

apparently the subscriber module is catching on .... I'm really interested to know if this works better than selling modules seperately ..

Right - where to start - firstly - Michael - thank you for the great feedback - it definitely makes the effort worth it to hear compliments like that!

Also - apologies for the lack of access for a few hours - I'm finding the PayPal IPN stuff does not always work and you username was not added to the correct role - it should all be up and running - let me know if you have any problems! I look forward to your feedback - please raise any feature requests or queries on the Forums on dumbTV!

IcthusTech: Thanks for the suggestion - no offence taken - I am always open to ideas. Would you care to elaborate thought please?

Basically dumbTV came to exist as a non-DNN event management website. It was designed to be a tongue-in-cheek site where anybody could make events, view pictures, add quotes and so forth. Possible due to my poor marketing skills, it was mainly my friends that used it, but it was definitely not designed just for them.

I also own the Smart-Thinker domain, but up until a few months ago I used that to sell my Pocket PC games. I have since decided that the market is saturated (Sony have Everquest on PPC!) and have decided to concentrate on my DotNetNuke modules, but have yet to redo the website. I also find two websites can be confusing to a user, so I thought what better way to showcase modules than on a live, working website?  A lot of people use dumbTV to make real events and share information - I thought it would be the perfect place to demo the modules in action and create a community feel.

I didn't want to demo the modules on dumbTV and then have to redirect them to Smart-Thinker, especially with the new subscriber model. I think that there is a massive difference compared to the traditional sales model: I want to create an evolving, interactive community much like Scotts Mcculloch's website (who incidentally gave me a lot of advice on the subscriber model - thanks Scott! - http://www.smcculloch.net) as opposed to a formal store front with a clinical, clean look.

Could you please be more specific? I have removed a lot of personal content, but it was actually a To Do on my list to double-check. If you want to take it offline you can reach me on rod at dumbTV.com.

EDIT: All content and module has since been moved to www.Smart-Thinker.com

erik, nokiko: Time will tell. Basically I am in this for the long haul and I as I mentioned in the previous post I have this vision of a thriving, interactive community centered around value-adding modules and resources. Smart-Thinker Events was well received, but there seemed to be such a distant link between myself and the customer. I find with the subscriber model there is a much closer relationship, and the subscribers have a very active role in the future features and modules that we will be producing.

Everyone seems to benefit - for a small fee subscribers can download ALL modules - this actually sounds too good to be true, but the payoff for me is that I can do smaller release cycles and have more creative freedom with the modules than if I was using the sales model. I really admire Scott Mcculloch's website and the way everyone chips in to help on the forums and the active presence he has on his website. This is my vision for dumbTV, and at the same time I can hopefully be rewarded for doing what I love doing: coding ;)

    Rodney,

After poking around some more on your site, here are my suggestions. Mind you these are only my opinions, but why have any if your going to keep them to yourself!

Create a page specifically for you modules and have all related support materials under that page.Scott's site works well because the entire site is dedicated to his modules. If you were to at least dedicate an entire area to your modules instead of mixing everything throughout the site it may make things clearer.

I can subscribe under the Help section I guess but why not have a "Subscription" area. I don't see the forums as a guest, a really bad idea IMHO.

    Thanks

    Indeed!

Right - I have been really busy reorganising, but basically I am adding a Subcriber Benefits page that is a feed of all individual module updates - this will go under Home. I may move the Subscription Page under here as well - you right - it needs to be more obvious.
I am also adding an Under Development page in the same area so peopl can see what is on the cards.

Dedicated area: The DotNetNuke menu is specifically designed for the module product details and all their individual FAQs, RoadMaps, blurb etc. the other pages are real demos of them.

Content: I actually thought you meant you didn't like the personal content on their (eg. galleries)? I have decided to create a public role to wrap some of the things that may not be relevant to DNN's.

Forums: Hmm - hadn't really considered this - yes- I'll make Forums viewable (readonly) to guests.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Hi IcthusTech

I've spent the weekend taking a break from coding and have redesigned dumbTV slightly to make it easier to navigate and less cluttered. When you have a moment, would you mind taking another look and giving me your opinion on the changes? I have removed a lot of junk that I guess didn't really matter to much!

Please note that version 4.0.1 for DNN 4.x has now been released.

You can read more about it here.
    http://www.smart-thinker.com/tabid/113/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/40/Default.aspx

This version is the functional equivalent of the 3.x version with a few minor tweaks.
