    Hello,

I am looking to purchase a RTE for a client as was wandering if anyone has any recommedations. The only real demand I have is that it has the functionality to validate HTML so its XHTML compliant. I really looking for something thats easy to install, configure etc.

    Thanks

    Simon

I have used RichTextBox from www.richtextbox.com in several projects and been very happy with it.

My company recently integrated the Cute Editor into one of our applications. After thorough testing in our development environment, we uploaded our application into 3 of our production environments, only to find out that the Cute Editor has significant problems working properly in a load balanced web server environment. After 14 days of going back and forth with their support department (which consists of one guy), trying to get them to fix the problem, I finally had to break down and buy the source code. Within 2 hours of having their source code I was able to fix the problem myself. The solution that I implemented took less than 20 lines of code. I find it hard to believe that the company that developed this product could not find a solution for two weeks, when I was able to solve the problem in two hours. I have a feeling that they intentionally did not fix the problem with their component so I would have no alternative but to purchase the source code or throw away the time and money that I had already spent integrating their product.  Don't buy this product unless you are willing to spend $5,000 on the source code.

    Simon,

If you're not restricted to the freebies, Cute Editor is extremely well done and simple to use.

I've used their support forum, email and live chat to communicate with support, and they always have an answer. (We have been using CuteEditor in production since July. 2003).

    Hi,

Our company recently started using the Telerik controls package and I am very impressed from what I have seen in RAD Editor. I haven't used any other RTE components and I can't really comment on how it stands compared to other products, but I don't think I will ever need more functionality than what's already available and I think it is very developer-friendly.

I read in Telerik's forums that the new release of RAD Editor that will come out in the ned of July will feature great XHTML content support, as well as the ability to verify the editor's content for XHTML compliance - any time during the editing process.

CuteEditor (it's nice but it's quite expensive for my project) and
FCKeditor Support XHTML content long times ago. They are the front runners
    of this field.

I like the UI of RAD Editor. But my developer told me all the HTMLarea
based editor have a common problem, memory leaking. Everytime you load
a page with the component, the memory was increased in 2mb more.

This is the demo link of FCKeditor:

    Hi Eric,

We pay major attention to customers' issues with our products and we are always grateful when we are contacted whenever customers experience a problem. We are sorry to find this message here, since you do not seem to have contacted us about the issue first.

We are aware of the problem and we are firmly determined to eliminate it as soon as possible. The memory footprint of the current editor has been brought down from 2M to 0.5M (four times less), and for the Q3 release coming on July 20th we believe we will get it down to about 200K which will make the r.a.d.editor the best optimized ASP.NET rich text editor with regards to memory footprint.

We are following competing editors closely and up until recently FCK Editor used to eat 7 MB per reload (their new version makes considerable improvements, however).
Once again, we wish to assure you that this issue has the highest priority and will be addressed in the upcoming release.

    Best,
    the telerik team
