I think using PearPC to test Solpart menus is a bad idea.  You're just adding another set of variables that don't need to be there.  the only way to really test a given environment is to actually duplicate that environment.

You should test out a copy first then make your statement. PearOS (or CherryOS for that matter) are excellent ways to cross platform test any website.

In our testing for our school portal system, we have seen no added "variables" as you say. What you see in the emulator is exactly as you see it on a real mac.

Justifying a purchase of a Mac machine just to test your sites is like buying a loaded Hummer to get groceries a couple of times a year.

    Hey Nokiko:

You can reach me at aaava at yahoo dot com.  And thanks.  We're desperate for a menu system that works on a Mac w/IE 5.2.3...

Yeah, I was digging through my "Best Practices" documents regarding development and or troubleshooting, and I can't seem to find the section that recommends emulators over the real thing.  But if you feel like it does the job for you, more power to you.  On the other hand, it's just possible that a community of 150K with an audience of millions deserves at least one real mac for testing.

One man's hummer is another man's minimum requirements, I guess.

    its in teh mail

the original script worked on teh following brosers

  • Gecko-based: Mozilla, Firefox
  • Opera 7.5+ (has issues with submenu removal)
  • KHTML/WebCore based: Safari 1.2+, Omniweb 5.1+, Konqueror possibly
  • IE5.01+ / Win
  • However I had testers reply that in dnn environment there were minor glitches that dint occur in properly setup html/css templates but I have seen screenshots from various mac browsers and versions all showing nicely

Had an interesting conversation with my wife last night trying to convince her to buy a MacMini...  Her response "Let me get this straight, you are investing your time and effort for all these people for free, and they expect you to spend $500 to support their environment?  Something doesn't quite seem right here.  Isn't there some way to accept donations?"  She had a point, but I'm not sure it is a path I want to go down.  Opinions?

Also, I am still waiting to hear back from those of you Mac users know a little about their Open Source OS (Debian)?  Does it come with Safari?

    Jon,

I'd be more than happy to kick in a donation towards a MacMini. I've restrained from suggesting it myself, as I didn't want it to look like some sort of coreteam conspiracy to any of our more paranoid community members, but consider the vast amount of work you've put into the menu, surely it it's not too much of a stretch for a community of thousands of users to generate $500.

Set up a paypal link and I'll start you off with $10

    Cathal
