please does anyone have experience with this issue: i would like to implement a functionality that tests the sizes of the files (files that user wants to download from portal, or file that is uploaded into portal - generally, user files in the portal, and general idea is to keep the upload/download possible, just to prompt the user that certain file is 'that big') - where and when to make this? Through the skin, and how, or directly in module's edit control (for example image gallery)?

You can use the System.IO class but in 3.x you have to be careful with Medium trust issues. I would look at how the DNN File Manager deals with this for guidance.
