We’re running dnn 2.1.2 on IIS 5. Dnn is fantastic! It has provided our Lutheran school a new means of communication that has previously been unmet since it allows for multiple authors who can edit from anywhere on the Internet—all for free! Thanks, developers!

My Question: Many of the docs that I post for download are in Word XP or PowerPoint XP format. The PowerPoint QuickView comes up beautifully in the browser. The Word docs, though, aren’t readable. The status bar shows that the Word 97/98 viewer is trying to read them. Is there a plan to include a more recent Word viewer in updates of dnn? Or is there a way that I can make our server default to a more recent viewer?

The machines I’m using to view docs all have Word XP installed, so I’m guessing the Word 97/98 viewer is not dependent on the client machine.

Actually Doug, the viewer being used is dependent upon the client machine... it is tied to the file type (from the windows explorer select menu items: Tools\Folder Options\File Types). Configuration management of client machines is a total pain (*grin*).

I am not an expert at forcing mime-types... perhaps some others will chime in here with suggestions.
