I am thinking of putting
AIS EC 2.0 as my e-commerce solution.but i have never tested this in real-life before, and thats why i would like to get comment from others who have tried it.how does it perform and how good is this compared to other stores, such as PortalStore 6.2 from
snow in snowcovered, catalook and other? i prefer the free solution if it is a good product, and perform to people liking.how is it to install the AIS store?what about maintaining and putting in products?what features does other stores have (if any)that this
one does not have?what is the main issues with AIS store?(if any) Is there any limitations regarding number of products, categories, pictures, security, that any can think of? and finally if it really is so good as the people at AIS site tells, why is it free?:-))
is this some kind of beta store? has anyone run it with success in a reallife experiance?if anyone has used this one and or others i would like to hear your 2 pennies as well,so i can make a well thought dissison here, and not be guessing it all. i have no
experiance in in running a online store,so i need help here.
Slope, AIS 2.0 is free for several reasons. Before DotNetNuke I developed a completely proprietary Content Management System called D.I.C.E which is actually still powering a few sites. This system has held up quite well but was costly to develop and never
reached the level of commercial success we hoped for. In contrast DotNetNuke has grown at a rapid rate and provides an excellent jumping off point for developing other applications. In the short term I could have really pollished AIS-EC and sold it. But I
have taken a much different approach. First I decided to wait until DNN 2.0 was out of Beta and had gone product before completing and making the first Beta release of AIS-EC. This was b/c I wanted to really understand DNN 2.0 and make sure AIS-EC would be
compatible with DNN 2.0. AIS-EC was not just an upgrade of AIS-EC 1.x but a complete re-write and a glimpse at what is to come. The real value of AIS-EC to me isn't making a few bucks here and there selling it but instead using the system to help customers
build e-commerce sites. Furthermore, releasing the code helps market AIS and establish us as a brand. My hope and goal is to have others use the system make suggestion and even submit code that will make the system better. This will benefits me b/c if someone
suggestions a better way of doing something then I learn something new and become a better programmer. So even though I am not getting paid directly I am still recieving compensation in many ways. The first Beta release of AIS-EC 2.0 has shown that we are
committed to developing a free e-commerce system that is made to be very user friendly. Over the past month and a half, since the formation of our Open Source team we have doing much testing, fixing bugs, and completing features. In others words stablizing
the system. We intend to make another release shortly and will post more information when we are done. Major Enhancements / Fixes Include: 1) Product Views- Products can be displayed in a list view with images or in a frid view without images. You can change
this on a per product module basis. Meaning one page could display products one way while another page displays them the other. It is very flexible. 2) Larger Image Pop Up- If a product has been assigned a picture then a customer may click on that picture
if products are being displayed in the product list view to see a larger image pop up. 3) Auto Thumb Nail- The system automatically creates a thumbnail image of a product picture if a product picture is assigned to a product. 4) Pricing Levels- The system
has two pricing levels which are Wholesale and Retail. If the user is logged in and belongs to a wholesale role then the wholesale prices for a product are displayed. 5) ISO Currency Symbols- The system has an option to display prices using ISO Currency Symbols.
For example USD4.00 This means United States Dollar. This is for international support and would let a merchant sell products world wide. 6) Sorting- In Product Display Grid Mode, the user can click on the column headers to sort by that field. As an example
if I clicked price then then the list of products would be sorted by price. This allows the customer to see the products how he/she wants to see and shop for them. 7) Paging- In product Display Grid Mode, paging is enabled. Meaning only a set number of product
are displayed at a time. Then a customer can click on page 2 to see the next page of products. Thanks,
This sounds great,i guess i willwait for the next store before going online. Lots of good features beeing added, more value for the shopper, and for the usersite. Whatabout other users?anyone that wanna stand up and tell me about their experiance with the AIS-ec,
or any other store used with Dnn 2.xx? Maybe we can turn this into a general discussion about the pro's and con's of all the stores possible to use as a PA or source-extension for Dnn? If any has anything they will say,let me know. And yes I know people are
all getting to know Dnn 3.0,but for sometime yet to come many users will still need 2.xx or 2.12 as their production-server. So lets hear from the end-users also.who have a story for me here?is one all bad,all good, is there anything that diverse one store
solution from others? is the support unbelivable good for one, anything will go for this matter. Keep in mind for me it is a critical settlement which store to go for, because when going online with the new store, i would really not like to let any axcisting
customer base down by launching a faulty solution.and keep in mind i don't mind spending $$ on a solution that is stabel, customable to my needs, and have an overall good perfaormance. but i will say that if AIS-ec is really as good as they tell us i will choose
them, cause they have started an ambitious (in the most positive way)project, and it seems to me they are stayer's when still supporting and developing the code.and for what is worth i have great belief in open-source environment.
Thx for the link.great reading. but know it is even harder to make a go for one -Catalook gets so many good reviews, but what are the main distinction between the AIS and catalook? Is there any features currently not included into last release that will be included
in the new AIS 3.0?that will even out the distinction between them? If there excist any good use-cases for the AIS,or any success-stories from sites currently displying more then 1500 different items, preferable broken into differnt categories pls let 'em links
keep coming. Also,is there any thing to consider when implementing the AIS ec for a european site? will autorize.net have any problems with processing creditcards that are issued by banks in europe?i belive this was an issue with some earlier portal stores
from snow.somehow the site would only be able to process and go thru with american issued credit cards. if there is any problems with checking and billing european creditcards, will there be a fix in AIS any time soon? or is there ways around like any com or
webservices that will fix this? the european market is slightly more complex then the US,cause we have lots of different taxes, vat and these tend to vary from most of the countries. any problems here with the AIS? also one thing i am not certain of, but it
also might be different ways of certifieing cardholders in different countries. i am not sure if this is polite, but if one run into problems with the AIS,will it be possible to get support?and if so,what do you charge for support?
Slope, Indian Guru, and Others, While developing AIS-EC 2.0 I mentioned it was a ground up re-write. So I personally looked at over a dozen different e-commerce systems and created a feature list that I want AIS-EC to include. Many of those features have already
been included and some are on the way. One of the biggest differences between AIS-EC and other systems is that AIS-EC is free and once we have reach a significant level of stability with this upcoming release we will release the source code. So AIS-EC is free
and open source. Another way we hope to be different is ease of use. For example, 1.x versions of AIS-EC were developed before PA's and were really difficult to install. They worked well for developers with a good understanding of DotNetNuke and VB.NET but
non developers had much trouble. With AIS-EC 2.0 we were able to make the install very easy using a single PA. Furthermore, the system is made to be very modular and have easy options that can be turned on and off. So basically, AIS-EC is being developed to
be very powerful but also very easy to use. I have heard from users that they like this approach. They have told me that other modules get to complex and deficult to use. Thanks,
well this just look great.free open source,is this not why we all are on this forum? i will start checking out the ais-ce 2.0 over the weekend. do you have any timeline for release of the 3.0? i know dnn 3.x final is not scheduled yet,but do you think maybe
4 weeks after dnn 3.0 will be enough time for you and your team to make a release? i am having trouble deciding to go for the stable dnn 2.1.2 and ais 2.0 or wait for the next release. i guess i can hold my horses for a month or maybe even 6 weeks after new-year
before starting this project. whatabout the eorupean creditcard? is there anything i need to know before starting this project? will it process correctly? thanks for the quick responds to me here dbottjer!
Hi Dennis thias all sounds great. But........ the question is when? DNN 3 is now in public beta. Would'nt it be the right time now to release AIS-EC for DNN 3 for public beta too? Take the opportunity to use hundereds of people to speed up the time to market
cycle! Thank you, Tom
Hi Tom, Short answer: no We have one release of AIS-EC 2.0 under our belt. As the Core team has stated DNN 3.0 is not Production ready. We fully plan an upgrade of AIS-EC for DNN 3.0 but also feel that DNN 2.x is still a valid platform and must remind everyone
that it is currently the production ready platform and will be for a while still. Therefore, we would like to finish our next release for DNN 2.x users. Many users will adopt DNN 3.0 slowly after testing thus DNN 2.x users shouldn't be abandon. Our plan is
to finish a full AIS-EC for DNN feature set then prepare AIS-EC 3.0 for DNN 3.0 so users of both systems will benefit. Thanks,
