> Particle, I'll link to that from mine if you like. Umm, does everyone ignore my signature? Or is everyone just ignoring my posts?!? LOL Yes there is ALREADY a Mono forum (www.gotmono.com) but I find that questions I have regarding asp.net will be better suited
to www.asp.net - and if these were ASP.NET sepecifc questions relating to Mono it would be great to have them answered here and not have to browse two sites. But it's all cool - I agree that it's a touchy subject that's best to be left alone since Linux users
are more often than not "proud" of their OS compared to others and the instance of flamewars regarding the standard "Which is better, Microsoft or Linux" would increase especially considering there are just a few proud M$'ers that fequent these forums. The
BSD people will just sit back and watch the madness as usual :) Not even the Linux buffs will take on hardcore BSD people, they're a scary bunch of people. Andrew
> Hey and I don't really like leaving the aspnet forum - because of the moderation and the forums are built right Ditto, hence the reason why I wanted a Mono section. I guess we'll see what happens...
I love the idea - Actually its pretty beneficial to MSoft. It Would without doubt be the most heavily moderated forum, but think about it.... for example, all of mydesigners always take some breaking in, they have a hard time accepting aspnet because they're
all used to shtml, php, cgi etc. After a while, when they see how powerful it can be (if its architected correctly :P0) Now, lets say I hire a good PHP coder, or more designers - and I can say "hey this runs on your mac" - you know how much easier it will
be to get accepted? Its amazing --- out of 6 designers, they're all from mac, php world.... Mono is a very good thing for Microsoft in the long run
The other MAIN reason I'd like a mono section is because on the mono forums (www.gotmono.com) there are around 300 members :( The forum there is _very_ basic. There also isn't much in the way of code help. There are tons of reasons why it would be good, and
only one problem I can see: People getting pissed off that some non-MS coders are lurking around, but considering there's a huge mix of people here already with varied backgrounds this problem isn't major (in my eyes)... The squeaky wheel gets the grease,
but I fear it's falling on deaf ears :/ Andrew
:: People getting pissed off that some non-MS coders are lurking around No - I think people get pissed when they have linux lovers claiming that their OS is the best around... can control the world because they claim "MS has security problems while Linux
hardly has ever". Well the truth is "MS gets more publicity of their security holes and hackers want to target the majority (which is Windows)". If those people do not come here - I will be fine! In fact, I think I will have more fun with the occasional comments
like "Are you having withdraw symtoms from Linux?" and a small hit back from the Linux programmers - but not to a level that someone has a big head, know what I mean? Not like we, windows programmers, claim that our OS is the best... or do we because of .NET?
I agree with Justin... I like Linux, I think its pretty neat.. .I REALLY hate some of the linux people though... You know what I hate more though? Is the people who know just a little bit about Linux to be dangerous and then start talking crap. Those people
crack me up, because they really don't know much about Linux OR MS server products, but they feel the need to preach how great their Linux is. I should have prefaced by saying I run both W2003 servers and Redhat Linux, so bite me if you are going to say I
am bias :) As for a Mono board, I think when its finished, it would be cool of MS to show some acknowledgement for Mono.. that way .NET will truely start to move into the realm of cross-platform use IMHO.
Yeah totally agree, both Linux and Windows users have their fair share of devotees who see their reason to live is to convert/flame the opposition. There's enough sane people to tell these people where to stick it. I've always been one to support ALL OS's,
not just one. I also want Linux/BSD/et al to become more mainstream to force MS to improve on both pricing and quality. We all know that when something has a monopoloy they can sell what they want for how much that want - which isn't good for us end users.
And on the other hand, if Linux/BSD/et al get more users on board they'll stop aiming just to the techo's (don't kid yourself, you need to have a good idea about pc's/software/admin to install and run Linux - my parents would have no idea but can _just_ handle
Windows) and start aiming for the common user (hopefully allowing all the techo stuff still). Andrew
