I currently have dnn installed on a shared hosting plan at interland.com. As I read in another post, there is a problem with displaying the images of dnn, something interland has mis-configured. I called them up and am trying to get them to fix the problem without me having to change the core code (mainly i don't have vs.net, and they need to fix it anyways).

But getting back to my question, if i host other sub-portals under mine, is it possible for a domain name to point to the sub portal? I know its possible to have multiple domains point to the same IP, or index.aspx in the www root dir, so if pointing a domian to a sub portal isn't possible, could you write a page for index.aspx that re-directs the user to the right portal based on the domain name in the url?

I hope you understand what i am asking, and please post any possible solution you might have for this problem

If I understand correctly, Yes you can.

As long as all the domains you want to use on the same instance of DNN point to the same virtual account, you are ok.

Keep in mind that each portal have a portalalias field. This does NOT limit you to one alias.

So if you created a child portal like www.mydomain.com/childportal then it's portal alias is "www.mydomain.com/childportal". Now say you want a new domain name to point to this child portal. No problem. Ensure Interland points the domain to the same virtual account as your master account.

Then make the portal alias for the child portal read:

This will allow that particular portal to answer to both the child portal url as well as the Domain name.
