    Hi !
    I have Windows XP Home edition installed.
    I installed Cassini & its working fine. I am able to navigate to the URL indicated by Cassini Web server.
    When I start VS.NET 2003-> New project->ASP.NET Web application->Location: http://localhost:80\RootDirectory\WebApplication1 ( Where RootDirectory is my Virtual Root ).

    I get an error:  "Visual Studio.NET cannot create or open the application because no web server was detected at the following URL: 'http://localhost:80/Root Directory/WebApplication1 .Make sure the web  server is installed and running."

    Could you please suggest what is the problem?

    Thanks and regards,
    ppayal.

    I share a same problem with few of you:

    Visual Studio cannot create or open the application. The likeliest problem is that required components are not installed on the local web server. Run Visual Studio .NET setup and add the Web Development component.

    Can someone find a solution to this, i'm getting desperate.

    Try deleting [ProjectName].webinfo in your web root directory.

    It just took me about forty-five minutes to figure this out.

    delete the VSWebCache folder.

    The VSWebCache folder is created automatically by Visual Studio when you open/create a web project and can be found in <root>\Documents and Settings\<user>\VSWebCache\<machinename>.  Simply delete this folder and VS will recreate it when you attempt (now successfully) to open the web project.

    I got this to work 2 years ago, but now that I'm trying again I can't get it to work.

     When I run Cassini Web server and I try to browse I get the error "No application is associated with the specified file for this operation".

    If I try to create a new web project I get an error message "Unable to create web project 'AppName'.  The UNC share \\computername\wwwroot$\AppName' does not exist or you do not have access.

    Can s/o help?
