I would like to know if VS.NET "Whidbley" will come with the successor of Visual SourceSafe ?

I could imaging a Software Configuration Management Solution based on a Web Services enabled SCM Server Framwork and a Server Portal build on top of Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services that will be integrated with VS.NET "Whidbley" IDE, as Office/Project is integrated with WSS/Project Server 2003.

I think if Whidbey contained a "successor of Visual SourceSafe", we probably won't see it until Beta 2.

Whidbey does come with VSS 2004...I haven't studied it, so I'm not certain what changes have been made, but they are finally getting away from VSS6, be it an incremental upgrade or the successor.

    Regards,

    Xander

I've looked over it a small bit. it does seem that it is just an incremental upgrade. Although, anything has to be better than VSS 6.0.

It is strange, at PDC 2000 (first .NET preview), I talked with severals folks from Microsoft about a major upcoming step in that direction within Microsoft labs. I wonder now (3 years later) why we have not yet seen any concrete evolution on SCM from Microsoft. Windows Sharepoint Services is now there and could be a place to snap collaration features of Whidbey. So why not extending that architecture to the full scale of a SCM solution.

Korby Parnell says VSS in Whidbey will be different, although it doesn't appear that way yet in the bits.

    Hi,

I tried to run "Analyse" to my VSS databases, but it returns a message:

    " File 'r:\.....\version.dat' not found "

That "version.dat" file does not exist in any of ny VSS DB, any help?
