    Noobie question...

I downloaded the blue and pink ID tag containers... How do I get them to work? I dropped them in a containers subdirectory off the root folder and then tried to change the Edit Container HTML for that module with the container.txt that was included with the ID tag containers...

    Help

Looks good, you might want to 2x check your container.txt for the gtwin container.

    Hi andy

mm i dont see any containers there but I like your elearning idea, we have built an ibs quiz module allready with following features.

    multiple choice engine
    add questions
    add quiz
    ad question to quiz
add randaom questions to quiz ( define the main categorys and then generate quiz randomly each time.

you can set timer on question adn timer on whole quiz

if quiz is over new quizcan be taken based on the wrongly answered question categories

At the moment still IBS tho

I think we need a container repository soon!

We're in the process of creating some more containers as well, with more a softer touch to the portal site. *smiles* Yes, I'm getting brownie points.

The containers are still coming together, they are a bit of a challenge to get looking okay on resizing, but check out what we have over the next few days.

Andy, did you copy the wrong URL when you posted? I don't remember having any containers on my site, but there are some other nice downloads.

i actually had fun creating the containers on my site and if there is enough interest, i'd be happy to host a repository. i would like to have some input from somebody in the know on the next release, however, to find out if this effort will serve people after the next update.

I am running the latest version of DotNetNuke - 1.0.10...

I copied some of the containers that people have posted here - and placed them in a Containers folder off the root...

What steps do I need to make in order to implement them on my site... I followed the instructions at http://www.bydesignwebsights.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=2144

However I kinda lost how to utilize them in my site at the paragraph begining at
"For where you want to place the [MODULE] (where the actual module will reside)"

Any help is appreciated - I'm a programmer but just don't have the time to wade through how to do this by trial and error - baby was born yesterday and trying to put his site together.

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww congrats to you and your Misses!

The [MODULE] is text that is simply a placeholder for the module. You leave that in there, DNN takes care of that while rendering the page.

For implementing a container in core:
    1. Figure out what container you want.
    2. Open the container.txt in notepad and select-all and copy.
    3. Go into Module Settings for the module in which you want the container to show up.
    4. Select "Edit Container", and notice the textarea box then appears. Paste the text into there.
    5. Select "Update"
    6. You should have your container.

i don't know that there is a hard and fast rule about this, but there seemed to be a growing concensus when i created my containers (_way back_ in august) that the way to do it (and the way i set up my containers) is to create a containers subfolder in the portal directory, then create subdirectories for each container 'style' or 'group' under that. so for my site at arswebdesign.com, the portal directory is the default name '57ad7180-c5e7-49f5-b282-c6475cdb7ee7'. i have a 'containers' subdirectory under that. then for the single line container (as an example) there is a 'singleline' subdirectory in 'containers'. when i want to enclose a module with the single line container, i edit the module settings, scroll to the bottom, click on 'Edit Container' and replace the existing content with the text from the container.txt file for the single line container, update and enjoy.

i didn't go through all the material on the page you cited, but the advantage to using that method (as opposed to the one stated above) is that you don't have to repeat containers for each portal (which may be a distinct advantage if you have a lot of portals and plan to use them everywhere). regardless of how the container author set it up, it should just be a matter of modifying the html in the container.txt to point to the right folder depending on which way you decide to go. i would like to make an observation about a particular portion of that method in that then images used between the corners (top, bottom, left and right) only need to be one pixel wide/high (unless you've got a pattern that requires more) since they are used as background images and are automatically repeated to 'fill the bill'. sure they're small files, but every little bit helps (especially on a dial-up).

    hope that helps,
    andy

Good points Andy - I threw that document together really quick because someone asked how do you actually create a graphical container. One should also create a page. Now that I've created it, what the heck do I do with it. I simply forgot that Core doesn't have the container preview enhancement that Steve Fabian did.

Yes, Adobe has the nice benefit of automatically rendering a small spacer.gif file of 43 bytes in size for that purpose of placeholding an empty table cell.

Ah i see thet the answer is allready aswered, but you have a site that im working on as well. A site for people to register there baby upload photos etc etc. In our very unique pixel portal designs I present to you a new design

I know thst it doesnt look like the standard DNN portal but it will work on my new menu enhancement for dnn portals.

I have a topenu that renders a tabstrip of images or text

And then i have a dynamically loaded control that takes all the child items to n level of this hometab and then feed this to the telerik.com radpanelbar.

Its something we have used in our IBS portals before ( were known for our non standard cookie cutter ibs sites, now its time to do the same for dnn :) but give me a week or so and we will have it rewritten for dnn as well.

For the people requesting my free scripts, the site is coming lang the design is almost finished and when the side menu module enhancement is done we will put it live, see the new layout here.

I am also working a link index like fuzzysoftware.com its working in our ibs portal but should be finished for dnn as well around this weekedn. I think i will give it away fro free for people who buy our first dnn modules ( schwingconent 2.0 dnn [ templateable cms system ] ). Its no use selling it seperately because I saw the one from santry and i also saw the new version man I cannot even compete with that in functionality.

And everyone hold your horses I am going to make more container designs ( thanks for all the nice comments and emails ) but have a few ones to finish now that im getting paid to do weee ;)
