Hi, I am quite confuse and want to confirm with you all again. Thanks for your all's help. So, i just want to make sure that, if i choose to use MySQL, i no need to pay any addition fees right? Or if needed, what addition fees needed? i) Is it MySql (window)
database better than Foxpro database? ii) Where i can download the MySql database full system? Or maybe if need specific software, where i can get the software or where i can purchase the software? iii) What additional software recommended to let the ASP.NET
connect to MySql database easier and whether no need also already very easy? iv) I want to know how to get all the required software and driver? How much is the total fees needed? Hope can hear the reply from you all soon.
Hi 1.) It depends on what you're doing, but for the purposes of running a database as a backend to a website, I think it's generally agreed that MySQL is better; FoxPro's not really designed for that sort of usage, whereas MySQL is. 2.) You can download the
Windows installer for MySQL from http://www.mysql.com/downloads/mysql-4.0.html 3.) If I remember correctly, you can connect to a MySQL database through an OLEDB or ODBC driver, but MySQL advertise two managed providers for MySQL, and so it would make sense
to one of those: http://www.mysql.com/downloads/api-dotnet.html 4.) Presuming you already have a working ASP.NET setup, once you've downloaded MySQL and a MySQL .NET data provider, then you've got what you need. There are no fees or additional items to purchase.
Hope this helps. Peter

4) Just make sure you read the
licensing policy for MySQL. In general it is distributed under the GNU Public License, but a commercial license should be purchased in these instances: -- If you distribute MySQL Software with your non open source software -- If you want warranty from MySQL
AB for the MySQL software -- If you want to support MySQL development For a web application that you are not going to turn around and distribute, you will likely not need to purchase a commercial license. Also, check out
