What happened to Crystal Reports in 2012? I can't see it

I think from VS2008 or from VS2012, they are not supported by default with visual studio setup
You must download a heavy file from Crystal Decisions web site, so that you can install it, after installation of VS

You need to download the same in VS2012 as it was also missing in 2010 version as well.
Try downloading the new SAP crystal reports.

Have you tried MS alternative called ReportViewer? It's built-in VS. If you have not looked at it, then give it a try! here is a good place for getting started http://www.gotreportviewer.com

CR isn't packaged with Visual Studio anymore, starting 2010 I believe. You can download it at SAP's website. It's called Developers Edition now.
Here's the link

I've recently converted to Reporting Services from Crystal, I find it works so much better than Crystal, particularly for web apps. You can get it for free with SQL Server Express with advanced services. Report Builder 3 is a great tool for developing reports.

That is correct. Since VS 2010, Crystal Report is an external component and you need to download spearately from SAP website.
For Reporting Service (SSRS) and Crystal Report hosting, you can consider asphostcentral.com
