I have been teaching with Visual Web Developer Express since 2005 and have the latest VWD2010.
Looking for any upgrades, I find the documentation very unclear.
It seems the latest versions are for Visual Studio Express, choosing the Web developer options, rather than for Visual Web Developer itself. Please advise: has Visual Studio become the expected platform for this use?.
If you want to develop professional web site, it is recommended to go for at least professional version of 2010 based on the development features it supports.
I hope this helps.

To clarify, I was looking for something like Visual Web Developer 2011 or 2012, or a simple clear upgrade.
I have seen the links suggested, that do not show VWD2012 but instead seem to point towards Visual Studio 2012, as do the links from ASP.net. So my question is whether Visual Studio is the expected upgrade path, and that Visual Web Developer is going to
be retired.
I do not need a professional version - VWD is ideal for an introductory module for students.
So my question is whether Visual Studio is the expected upgrade path, and that Visual Web Developer is going to be retired.
Visual Web developer express is not in 2012. You have to
install Visual Studio express for web. AFAIK, there is no way to update from Visual Web developer to Visual Studio express. You would have to do a clean installation.

Hi,
Please check the below link that contains different versions of Visual Studio 2010 and has a comparison chart of features supported by each version:
http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products
As per my understanding, some of the features listed in above link will not be available in Visual Studio 2010 Express. The link is:
http://www.microsoft.com/express/Windows/
If you want to develop professional web site, it is recommended to go for at least professional version of 2010 based on the development features it supports.
I hope this helps.
