This year, Facebook deleted some elements from its profile page and made a new page known as Timeline.
They call it upgrading. Users call it degrading.
What they did was they stopped usage of the unused elements. And created some new effects and things and techniques.
Same here. I never used WebMatrix 1.0 My first use was WebMatrix 2.0 Beta So I only know there was something new! That is why its called beta. Term Beta is used for something new which is in testing condition. You know.

Here's a screen shot of the program in question: I also have the book my Mike Pope/Microsoft Asp.net Web Matrix starter kit which shows you how to use the forms and controls
"ASP.NET Web Matrix, whose name was the inspiration for WebMatrix, was released in 2003 and later discontinued by Microsoft in favor of Web Developer Express, a free version of Visual Studio's web development functionality; Visual Studio is Microsoft's flagship
IDE for all aspects of Visual Basic and C# coding, including ASP.NET development."
Notice the space in the name on the book cover? That was an old program for developing Web Forms sites in ASP.NET version 1.1. WebMatrix (no space) is the new IDE for developing Web Pages applications. The current successor to Web Matrix (with a space) is
Visual Studio Express For Web: http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/eng/products/visual-studio-express-for-web
You are correct... Web Matrix 1.0 did not have the toolbox and forms as I had suggested. Asp Net Web Matrix - pictured above was
actually version 0.5 (copyright 2002). I happen to have a copy of that (and it does have the forms, toolbox etc) and I can tell you it is very, very primative.
In fact, I would not use it because there is so much to be desired. Version 1 is by far a different animal - like night and day.

Web Matrix 1.0
Dec 04, 2012 01:24 PM|LINK
Is it possible to get the original Web Matrix and if so where?
I know it is probably not supported now but it has been brought to my
attention that it was radically different from WM 2 - such as you could
visually design your own web page layout and add controls (like buttons and
textbox) however where you want it). But for some reason in version 2, they
got rid of the toolbox controls and forms with a bunch of other visual features and goodies.
Thanks

Yes, I was surprised that I never discovered Web Matrix until 2.0.
