EBS will not accept unauthorized SSL or selfassigned certificate even if you want to test it. SSL are very cheap.. some start with just $10 for a year.. there are hosts who even charge on per month basis. You can ask your host if they provide shared SSL
link which can be used to test your page, incase you do not want buy SSL. i would personally recomment you to buy a certificate.
SSL certificated are installed on entire domain name and adding any prefix to the domain makes the certificate invalid , for example if you have a SSL certificate on saleem.com then the same certificate will not be valid for www.salim.com.
Once you have SSL installed on your domain you can just redirect your user to https link, it will automatically call the secure link and encrypt the data.
Let me know if you need any more help to make it work for you.
The importance of SSL is obvious when you own a website that requires your users to enter sensitive information.
Having a secure website not only gives customers the confidence to part with their information but helps assure customers that you value their privacy and security.
If you choose not to secure your website with SSL then how will the customer trust you and provide their credit card details. The more important is to get a certficate from a good provider. let me suggest a trustable site where you can get your ssl certficate
at affordable prices. http://www.tucktail.com/ssl-certificate/. Check out the link.hope this is useful for you.
