Yes I have tried CCleaner. Um, I'm trying to fix it without reinstalling windows because it's tyoo big of a process, I have to backup data and install everything although I will do it if that's the only option, any other options anyone?
(IF) you go to the re-installation route, prepare what you are going to do,
windows installation, and the important application could take less than 3 hours, and then finish the rest of setups while doing other stuff on the computer ..
Hi, I'm on XP and I'm having the same problem except that the prompt used to say that it was installing 0 bytes but now that I've uninstalled .net 4, it says it's installing 112kb, but still fails with an error without showing an error code.

Also, I'd like to note that 3.5 SP1 shows up in my add/remove programs and when I try to remove it says that it's already uninstalled.

maybe your computer had a crash during installing something
there is a free tool called ccleaner (google it) , and it will try to fix broken registery values and similar errors
if that didnt work, re-install windows.
