I took the JQuery solution provided by Yens Design (www.yensdesign.com) and created a Visual Studio 2010 Project that demonstrates how to turn and div or panel into a modal popup form.
Prior to creating this I looked at the JavaScript Lightbox, the Ajax Control Toolkit Modal Popup Extender, and many other products and I think Smooth Popup is the easiest way to show a popup in an Asp.Net page.
Its free, so try it for yourself, and tell me what you think.
