After switching to the web designer, VS2010 sometimes hangs. If I look at the Resource Monitor, I see that devenv.exe is consuming 50% of the CPU (on a dual-core machine), and its memory usage keeps slowly growing. Since VS is unresponsive, I end up killing
the devenv process and restarting VS.
The problem occurs about 1-3 times a day. I have not found a way to specifically reproduce the problem, but it appears to happen most on complex web pages that include UserControls. All pages in this project also use Master pages, if that helps.
Since upgrading from VS2008 to VS2010, I've noticed a number of odd problems. This one actually forces me to kill the devenv process and restart VS2010, and so is particularly disruptive. I did not have any similar problems under VS2008.
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, under Parallels Desktop 5, running under Mac OS X 10.6.5
Visual Studio 2010 Pro, version 10.0.30319.1 RTMRel
3 GB RAM allocated to the Windows virtual machine.
I'm not running any add-ins or other unusual software. Any suggestions?
(I have an annotated screen shot if it will help)

I have this same issue, it happens when editing xaml files although I am not doing it in the designer it still will eventually run really slow and crash. I can ussually catch it before it crashes and just do a restart...
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with 8 gb of ram...
This is very frustrating...

My previous replies must didn't get posted. Let me try again.
Please install VS2010 sp1 beta
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=11ea69cb-cf12-4842-a3d7-b32a1e5642e2&displaylang=en to see if your problem get fixed or not.
If not, please email xinqiu at microsoft dot com with repro solution and details. I may additionally request a dump file from you to further analyze the problem if I cannot repro (e.g. if the problem is caused by a 3rd party add on etc).
Thank you very much for the support.

Thanks for the suggestion, but this is on a production development system - no betas allowed. Do you have an approx date for SP1 release?

Sorry, I don't have a approx date.
I suggest you setup a VM or something to try it out, especially your problem area. As there is still a chance for us to gather a fix for you if it's not already been fixed.
Also sp1 beta carries a go-live license, means you can use it to do production development without restriction.
