I'm having this problem for quite sometime now. I'm using SQL Express for my DB.
First i thought it's because of Web Server 2003 so i migrated to 2008 but it did'nt solve the problem.
Some of my users suddenly cannot login anymore not All were affected and almost same user
encounter account corruption. My solution right now is to delete their account and create a new one.
I dont know if it's how they use the web service or something wrong with the browser.
My plan right now is to create a new "ASPNETDB" if i cant find any solution.
Hope some can asist me if in case you have already encountered this. Also thought that maybe
because i'm using SQL Express MS intended to do this to force me to buy licensed version.
BTW, normally i only have 20 users accessing Web at the same time.
log in problem

I thought I was the only one having this problem, so it is funny that I stumbled across your post just reading through the unanswered forum threads. I'm not sure whether or not your situation is related to SQL Express, because in my case I'm using SQL 2005
Workgroup Edition running on an SBS2003R2 server. It usually seems to be the same 3-4 users out of 30 that I have to delete and recreate accounts. It isn't as though they're locked out, either, because I have checked that.
What is interesting, however, is that I can get the users to log in if they switch to another browser. That is, if a user is unable to log in using IE, I've been able to have them log in using Firefox. Very strange.

I'm really relived that i have someone that did encounter this issue. My last option is to buy SQL Server 2008 but i might hessitate since you did encountered it in a licensed version.
My member did tried to switch with other browser but still can't login i might try again since it works with you. Right now i'm migrating our Web
using VWD2010 and just created a DB for user account. This issue really frustrates me that why i slow down in developing our system since from time to time i need to create a user account. I hope that there's still someone our there that encounter this problem
Thanks for your reply the best message i got today.

Do the both of you have a machine key in your web.config? You can create one using this
Most likely you'll need to reset the password for all users, but I think your problems will be solved....
By the way, also make sure that the membership, role and profile provider all use the same applicationname, which you can set in the web.config as well....

Already added machine key, currently observing. Update you when when it fixes this issue.
Just checked membership, role and profile all were using same application name.
Have a great day ahead.
Thanks a lot,
