Hello, I have been trying to create a retail website for some time now. I started making an HTML version of it in word pad. Now i'm moving on to the database side of things and so I decided to get Visual Web Developer (along with SQL Server Express 2008). I'm currently reading a book called "SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Starter Kit" by a company called Wrox and hopefully this will teach me a lot about SSE e.t.c. As you can tell I'm an amateur!

Anyway onto the problem at hand. The website which i created in Word Pad doesn't load properly when I import it into VWD. Some Divs are in the wrong position e.t.c. It seems as though VWD is loading the page in a browser much like IE6. When testing the HTML site on my server, everything loads perfectly in: IE8, Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, Chrome and Opera. I haven't tried it in any other browsers.

    Thanks,

    Mike

P.S. I'm only 14 so go easy on me :)

I don't need tutorial videos thanks, as I have the book I was talking about. I would just like an answer to the question initially posed.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I didn't exactly see a question in your initial post, but I'm going to guess it is something along the lines of "Why does it seem like VWD displaying my page incorrectly in design view?"

VWD does use an older rendering engine from a previous version of IE (not sure on the specific version).  So it does not always render everything up to standards.  The design view is not intended to be a replacement for the browser. It is a working surface for editing your website in an alternative way to text based editing and to give you a rough idea of what your site will look like.

You can provide feedback at http://connect.microsoft.com/ if you feel this is an issue.

Once you have your pages created in VSWD, you can run the project and see what it looks like in the version of IE8 installed on your system. If it looks right then you're all set. However, I do recommend viewing your pages in a number of different browsers, as each of them has their own little idiosyncrasies.
