    Hi there

We have run into a interesting situation. We have an HMC 4.0 platform. One of our users "mistakingly" deleted a mailbox. Now we have a situtaion where we have a disconnected mailbox.

So the first option that comes to mind is to do the MPS create user procedure and then to reattach the maibox. However this means that MPS now does not knwo about the mailbox.

Does anyone know of a way of doing this in such a way that MPS is aware of it?

     Hello,

    pastoor:
Does anyone know of a way of doing this in such a way that MPS is aware of it?

Couple ways exist. You can create mailbox for new users using MPS as usual, and then, behind MPS/HMC back delete mailbox and attach the old one. Then you will have to manually correct all user's attributes (e-mail address, AL/GAL membership, etc), Plus you have to make sure, that MPS will create new mailbox in the same mail store as deleted one.

    Another way:

    1. Create new mailbox as usual

    2. Create dummy user (outside of HMC sandbox) and attach deleted mailbox to dummy user

    3. Export attached mailbox to PST

    4. Import PST to new user's mailbox (created on step #1)

    4. delete dummy

    Hello there DmitriG

Yes the solution that you provided is the one that we normally would use. I was hoping that there was q quicker way of doing this. We have found another way but this is very scary.

    1. We keep our deleted mailboxes for 30 days

    2. Resurrected the user AD object from thombstone (yikes)

    3. Attached the mailbox back to the resurrected AD object.

    4. Manually recreated all missing attributes AL/GAL membership, Display name and various others .

    5. Re enabled all the users assets in the MPS database.

This one is not for the faint hearted, but we did learn alot Tongue out

    pasttor,

Your procedure is totally fine and I did the same things two or three times in the past. I prefer to do not use it any more for two major reasons:

    1. Too much of manual labor (low level AD editing) and as result - higher chances to make mistake.

    2. Number of tombstoned objects in our AD is so huge, that simple enumeration takes 15-20 minutes ;-)

In some cases you simply do not another way to fix problem (i.e. mailstore deleted from Exchange before being removed from MPS Resource Manager).
