On Friday 9/25/2009 we loosened the requirements for Article of the Day a bit.  We still are looking for high-quality content, and to that end we will now accept blog posts.

You can view the updated requirements here: http://www.asp.net/community/articles/SubmitArticle.aspx.  And for reference, I have listed them below:

    • The article must be directly relevant to ASP.NET. An article concerning general .NET development or general web development will not be accepted.
    • The article must be freely accessible to the public. Pay-for-access articles will not be accepted.
    • The article must be of high technical quality. An article that does not follow recommended practices will not be accepted.
    • The article must be of high editorial quality. An article marked by poor spelling, grammar, or style will not be accepted.
    • Articles which are little more than annotated code snippets will not be accepted. Similarly, articles which are little more than a series of images with very little written content and explanation will not be accepted.
    • An Article may be a weblog entry, as long as it meets the rest of the guidelines.
    • Preference is given to recent articles. Articles more than 1 year old are not likely to be accepted.

Additionally, we are now sending out email notifications for the following 3 events:

    1. We have received your submission
    2. We have approved (or declined) your submission
    3. Your submission is now live on the site

(We had already been sending out email notifications for the first 2 events.  The third one is new.)

Thanks to all for your submissions!

    Hey,

I have been submitting these over the last month and I didnt realise until recently that a lot of my submissions had come back declined (presumably because they were too short).

It would be better if the subjects of the emails and the layout of the emails were different, the submission email and the declined email are virtually the same - I havent had an accepted one yet.

Is there any chance the status of your submitted items could be made visible in my profile or something?

Hi Matthew (apparently NOT Harry...sorry for that previously),

First of all, thank you for your Article of the Day submissions!  I have not yet reviewed all of them (I don't think), but I am sure I have approved at least one, and I know I rejected at least one.  I think we may have an issue with the wrong email being sent out when an article is accepted.  I had been suspicious of that based on someone's comment previously, and now your post seems to be confirming it.  We'll take a look at this...but will probably be a couple of weeks.

We are definitely looking at hooking together all areas where you submit content, so that you will have a sort of "dashboard" of your activity (video comments, forums posts, Control Gallery submissions, etc.).  This would likely not appear on the site until after the New Year at the very earliest.
