I Downloaded the  Viusal Web Developer 2008 Express Edition form this link http://www.microsoft.com/express/vwd/ 

During installtion on below option progress bar is getting stoped

Microsoft Visual Studio web Authoring component 

and iam getting the fallwoing Error

Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition with SP1 - ENU has encountered a problem during setup.  Setup did not complete correctly.

kindly assist me where iam doing wrong .or what else i have to do for getting working Visual Web Developer Express 2008 .

What is the Differnce between VS and Visual web Developer ?

VWD is a subset of Visual Studio.

You should check if you have correct version of .NET before installing VWD

with all, or almost all, Windows programs,  Help,  About the_program_name will will give the version information.

The Visual Studio editions give you lots of version information via Help,  About ...

I would uninstall VWD.

I would install .NET Framework 3.5 and upgrade to .NET Framework 3.5 SP1.

Use Windows Update or Microsoft Update and just keep repeat updating until there are no more applicable updates.

Then I would install VWD 2008 Express; after that again use Windows Update or Microsoft Update over and over until there are no more updates.  By the time that you are finished, you want to end up with:

          .NET Frameword 3.5 SP1
          VWD 2008 Express SP1

There are actually two versions of VWD ...... one is part of Visual Studio.

The other is FREE and is part of the Express family ... the Express editions are useful for learning but do not have all of the features of the versions that you pay for like VS Standard, VS Pro, et cetera.

Additionally, it is possible to do real work with the Express versions even though there are somewhat limited.

For example, the Express versions do not have built in support for unit testing.  AFAIK, you need Pro version or better for the unit testing feature.  The more features a version has, the more you pay for that version of VS.  OTOH, with the Express versions you can still do things like unit testing AFAIK; however, you'll need a better understanding because you'll be doing things manually that the more advanced VS versions do for you.

As a new VWD2008 express user myself; I suggest doing a fresh install of windows and Visual Studio. I was experiencing problems and an fresh install solved my errors.

 I don't advocate reinstalling Windows, except as a last resort.
