     Hi,
I tried to install sql server 2008 management studio. It took me to the SQL Server Installation Center, and it run the rule check. It always failed saying that I need to restart my computer. I restarted the computer at least 20 times, and it has not solved the problem. I've gotten the same error.

Window XP pro with SP3, PENTIUM 3 2.4 GHZ
I had sql server 2005 install previously, butI removed it before installing 2008.
I tried installing sql server 2008 express with tool, and it did not work.
I have been able to install sql server 2008 without the management tool
I reinstalled my MS visual web developer with slq and tried to down the management tool later, and it still did not work.

    Regards,

    Gagouche

I don't see anything in the event log. I cleared the log and tried to reinstall sqls server management studio twice. It did not work.  I checked the event log,and it is empty.

I've just had a quick search on google and there's not much out there for this error.  All I would try in uninstall all the sql parts and try re-installing.  I haven't run into this issue before.

    Hi Gagouche,

From your description, it seems that your machine continually reboots when installing SQL Server 2008 Management Studio Express, right?

Please refer to the following link:

I think we may also use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove the installation information.

I was not able to  fix the issue right aways. I restore my computer to an earlier date, and it corupted my sql server file. As a result, I was not able to remove sql server 2005. I reformat my hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch.

However, someone else told me that the sql server with advance tool should fix that issue.

I don't know if it works, but it worth a try given someone else has the same issue.
