You can't find any better books than these two:

    Murach's Visual Basic 2005

    Mastering Visual Basic 2005

The both reviews were written by my dear friend Ged Mead.

    Enjoy!!!

These books look pretty good, but as well as explaining things to you do thay have lesson/projects for you to do so you can learn by doing??

Exactly, Murach's books have very interesting style and they present a topic on the left hand page and then demonstration code sample to the right page.

    Very good approach for beginners.

Of course the another book has a bit different style which also works for me and i like the Evangelos Petroutsos books generally.

AN earlier version of Mastering VB.NET was my first book on VB.NET. I learned a lot of things exactly from this book!

Please read the reviews i sent to you. You can find them very useful before you make the final decision.

    Regards

Cuz maybe he is comming from VBx background. However it's just syntax!

If you know the framework, the rest is just (as mentioned) syntax.
