Look at his
latest post, that's just ridiculous. There are much better blogs that deserve the attention and readers, I know of some awesome posts that people have put several evening in to write that never make it on the front page of this site, and this guys copy-pastes
a top 10, adds no original text, doesn't spell check, and he probably get's 5000 page views.
I just read the full article on TechRepublic having seen Joe Stagner's blog listing on the front page. It's quite interesting. I wouldn't have seen it otherwise. But Joe's blog appears in the Microsoft Blogs list. He's not in competition with anyone
for exposure (except his colleagues), and his blog doesn't appear to be a commercial venture - just a couple of ads on it.
It's not about it being a commercial venture or not. It's about how much effort one puts into a blog or article. The fact is, there are very well written blog articles out there, that do not appear on the front page, and then there's a guy that literally
does copy-paste with a link at the bottom. Just because he works for Microsoft doesn't mean he adds more value to the site. Guys like Phil Haack and Scott Hanselman do.
Look, if Joe Stagner wants to give attention to an article he has read, he should submit the article, like the rest of us. If he wants to have a 'blog' he should put effort into it, like others do.
And finally, www.asp.net should strive to offer valuable content to its visitors, not copy-pasted top-ten lists with typos.

Having thought more about it (because I did think about it originally) I still disagree with you. If anyone wants to have a blog, what they put into it, and how much effort they want to spend on it is entirely up to them.
Personally, I find less than half of Joe's blog content of interest to me. But that's just as true of Scott Hanselman, Phil Haack etc. That's the nature of blogs. They are personal, and tend to reflect the interests of the blogger.

Just because he works for Microsoft doesn't mean he adds more value to the site
I never suggested that. All I did was point out that his blog is aggregated in a particular area of the home page that is reserved for blogs of people who work for Microsoft. It's called "Latest
Microsoft Blogs". As to the value he adds to the site, he is responsible for producing a large numebr of the videos in the Learn section.
And before you ask: no - I don't know Joe Stagner, and he doesn't know me. We have never met. Or corresponded in any way whatsoever. I just think that slating someone for one blog entry you didn't like or thought was rubbish is a bit strong.
I don't think you understand why I posted. I chose the www.asp.net feedback
forum for a reason. This is SOLELY about the site. Not about a person (don't know him, so how could it be), why he does what he does (not relevant), wether it's up to people what they do (of course it is), who knows who (I don't really care about stuff
like that, so no I wouldn't ask). What I meant with the Microsoft thing was to say that it's an automatic thing (probably) without a good quality check. It's not about interesting topics either, why would I go on and suggest for everyone what is interesting?
Many of his latest blogs add next to no value, especially that last one. So I suggest that the fact that a blog is on the Microsoft feed shouldn't be a reason for automatic inclusion. Again, nothing to do with a person, the topics of the blog, or who knows
who, or whatever.
If person A (Microsoftie or not) has found an interesting article, he can submit it,
like everyone else. That's is the bottom line I guess, submit article, gain recognition points or copy-paste on your Microsoft blog with advertisements and get page-views being nothing but a middle man.
Like I have said before, I know that writing a good, original blog article can take sometimes up to 3 evenings of work, most people do it in their spare time. Most people can't ever get that on the front page, even though they would REALLY deserve to be
there, because you can't submit blog articles, only independant publications (btw, if a blog isn't an independant publication then I don't know what is). On the other hand, a copy-paste blogpost done in 2 minutes get's possibly hundreds (thousands)
of page-views, because it just happened to be on the Microsoft feed.
Think of the readers, quality, image and value when including blogs or blogposts. I mean, even this forum has moderation, so I think the blogroll should have too.
That is my website feedback.
PS. Joe's blogposts should definitely make it to the frontpage (for the last time, it's not about HIM), just only when they add value imho.
OK. You'll maybe forgive me for misunderstanding your motivation behind your post. The title of your thread suggests (to me at least) that your issue is with the general quality of JS's blog content, and that it should be removed from the list.
Should better quality independent blog items get space on the front page as well? Absolutely, in my opinion. But if you are looking for some potential real estate for them, I would look to removing the advertisements and putting them there.
