I've been using VS2005 for a few years now with almost no problems. I have multiple development sites on Server2003, IIS6. I publish those to the "live" sites on the same server, different folder. As I said, been doing that successfully with no problems on a weekly basis for a few years.
I upgraded to VS2008 this week in order to start playing with Ajax. Have a small, simple Intranet site, so I decided to start with it. Took the development site, upgraded it to VS2008, made minor text changes. I'm able to access, view, interact with the development site fine (behind our firewall only - it's just for development). I then published it to the "live" folder.
After publication, the following:
-
couldn't view website, access denied
-
all subfolders had the security and sharing tab REMOVED
-
could not replace permissions
-
could not take ownership
-
could not rename the folder
-
could not restore over the folder or subfolders
-
could not delete the folder or subfolders
Wound up having to RESTART the server knocking everyone on other websites and apps off. Then I could rename the bad folder and restore from last night's backup. This is really scary. Anyone have a clue what's going on here?
