I downloaded the toolkit and extracted it just like it showed in the video but everytime i try to add the tool.dll to my tools bar i get an error that the dll doesn't have anything that can be added

You may want to try the DLL only version of the download.

Use the AjaxControlToolkit-Framework3.5SP1-DllOnly.zip link. That would be the 3rd link.

The AjaxToolkit.dll is the file you need to add it in as you expected.
