I want to develop a menu that displays multiple items, and each item has children items .
now the sitemap restricts the presence of only one root item .
so if I want to have multiple roots is the solution is to use multiple menu item and multiple sitemaps for each root element ??
please provide me with any ideas.

I think you can add your links with the single root and use StaticDisplayLevels property of the menu control to deal with the stuff. if you have 5 more links with home add all as child at second level and at the third level you have the submenus
for each item, set the property value to 2 and here you go :)
hope this helps

Prashant is right. While you're restricted to a single root node, this doesn't limit how you display the sitemap. Create the sitemap with a single root node and multiple child nodes, each with their own children. You can then use the StaticDisplayLevels
on the menu to ensure it displays both the root and the children. Alternatively, you can use the StartingNodeUrl or ShowStartingNode properties on the SitemapDataSource.

well in the sitemap data source there is a property to show starting node.
make it false and it will show all nodes below the root node in the sitemap
