HI, i need to know that how different websites are showing data with different domain name depending upon the region or city of the user. for example if you go to www.craiglist.com you can see from there if you select newyork the url become http://newyork.craigslist.org/ and so on with the other locations. What exactly they are doing, have they made sub domains for each location (cities) which I think is not a professional solution as they have to maintain a large file system, or they are just doing URL rewritting.

Based on my knowledge, creating sub domains for each location is one of the practices, but as you said, it’s not a good practice. Actually, one of the general way is to use UrlRewrite to achieve that, it gets the city name in the domain string and pass the name as parameter to the actual page which handle the request.

Yeeh URL rewritting is a solution but my goal to achive this is to do SEO for my website and If I have only one domain lets say click2city.com then I can add only 40 keywords to it for SEO, which is very less. So, what I saw on the web and what different people are doing is like what I already told you. By that I can also divide the website by zone making it faster then before and also, I can add keywords related to cities. Any other good Idea.

 As for SEO, you do can create multiple sub domains, and map to the same IP address, and on that server, create a default handler to process the incoming request, get the city name from the UrlString, and redirect to the core handler. This practice can avoid you creating lots of folders which is rather complicated.
