Dropped in today to see that avatars are now displayed in Last Post column. What's the point? It doesn't add or richen anything; on the contrary. Therefore, may I request to disable that and return the status as it was before?
On other side, are there admins or moderators here? I haven't seen any around. It would be nice if admins/moderators are listed against each Forum, just in case.

besides being just eye candy, they
Make the display larger and this is impairs usability unless you havea very large screen.
Slow the display time as more data has to be transmitted.
Click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helped you.
This earns you a point and marks your thread as Resolved so we will all know you have been helped.

Display enlargement should be left to user discretion to manipulate via appropriate means (altering text size, styles, etc). Imposing such a distressful feature is definitely not an option. From what I have seen so far TATWORTH, Usability is apparently the
last concern of site developers.

Also I have no avatar before, but now I get an ugly random one.
Neither do I my friend. Sure if we want avatars, we could have picked one of our choice. Now, we MUST use one, whether we like it or not!

Seems like a feature request. How do you see this and what purpose would it have?
1. It conveys that the Forum IS officially endorsed and moderated.
2. It facilitates a direct access to moderators shall a user wishes to approach one.
Now, since this feature doesn't seem to be welcomed by many including yourself Kris, could you do something about it being a moderator? How about conducting a Poll to vote it if developers are persistent?

The quickest way to reach the moderation team when needed to signal us is to use the "Report as abuse" link that you find on every post. I'm not sure how many people regularly check their private messages but I only do it a couple of times a day, sometimes
only once per week. This is mostly due to the fact that there's no real notification or visual appearance that something's there.

I didn't say that I didn't like the idea, I was just curious to know what purpose it would serve.

We here on the Microsoft Communities team released a new featured called "Identicons". It's primary purpose was to replace the default image that represented an avatar, in the event when an avatar has not been uploaded to your user profile. We understand
that there is some slow response when rendering a page; as a result we are working proactively to make it a bit more snappy. Also, I will take and aggregate all feedback those of you mentioned and present it to Microsoft for further discussion. Thanks!

Jay,
Of course you and your team have the right to experiment. If what you kindly shared could have been addressed BEFORE attempting to implement it, in
Announcements section for example, rather than leaving us roaming around complaining.
Thank you for understanding.

I agree. All these images are distracting. If the person didn't pick an avatar, I would leave a simple default picture as it was before.

Hi,
Yes, and this morning I was also baffled by seeing this.

This new "feature" slows down the entire site. Takes plenty of seconds generating and displaying the tiny avatars.
Also I have no avatar before, but now I get an ugly random one.
Please turn this "great" feature off, thank you.

I would say, the experiment proved wrong, please restore the original working functionality with no avatars.
