    Hi guys,

I have a dedicated server on GoDaddy. It runs Windows Server 2003. I've been checking GoDaddy every week since the 2008 was released, but they still don't have it as an option for dedicated servers. I'm currently working on an MVC project and would like to take full advantage of IIS7.

Does anybody know when GoDaddy will ever allow us to use Windows Server 2008 on dedicated servers?

I thought they might be waiting for Hyper-V, but that's out too now, so what gives.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

You should ask GoDaddy about their plans.

    Regards

Godaddy might not be having media for Server 08. You may try out some other provider.

I've called GoDaddy a couple of times just to ask, and I swear it was like talking to an idiot. The people had no idea what I was talking about, or some didn't even know what a dedicated server was, and in some cases they tried to change the subject at the end to having me renew an item in my account. Frustrating to say the least.

A couple of months ago, Scott Guthrie was here in Phoenix for some event (forgot what) and GoDaddy was one of the sponsors. Anyway, the two spokes people were bragging up and down about how excited they were about Windows Server 2008 and how they were going to implement it fast, etc, etc.

    Still nothing...

I would suggest you to move to another hoster that is able to provide you with a Windows 2008 server.

I know they have IIS 7 and options for .NET 2.0/3.0/3.5 if you want.  If you have IIS 6 you will have to cancel your hosting account and sign up for a new account as the version of IIS is only an option during the hosting setup.  I received this as an email from GD Support this week as I inquired about the same thing.  But I am going to stay with IIS 6 as the ASP.NET applications I use are not yet compatible with IIS 7...BlogEngine.NET and a few others.

Well, I know that GoDaddy uses Windows Server 2008 for their Windows shared hosting plans, which obviously comes with IIS7, but I am running a full dedicated server, and they won't allow you to purchase it yet. I emailed them yesterday, and I got back a reply that they don't talk about their future releases. Really annoying...

Try asking if you be part of the "early adopters plan" - I did some work at the end of 2002 and got Windows 2003 as a dedicated server under the early adopters plan (not with GoDaddy I hasten to add).

And yet you seem determined to get a dedicated 2008 server through them.  There are a number of hosts that have dedicated or shared Server 2008/IIS7 plans.  If you feel you must stay with GoDaddy, realize that you automatically lose your right to whine about service.

Do you really need a dedicated server for what you're doing or will a shared server suffice?

I suppose it does look like I'm whining, but that's not my intent. The whole point on this topic was to see if anyone had any info on when GoDaddy was gonna have dedicated Windows Server 2008 as an option. My other comments were simply statements of my experience so far.

As far as transferring to another host, not an option. I have nearly 20 websites and 1 dedicated server on my account alone, plus I manage two other accounts with dedicated servers on them as well that also need to be upgraded to 2008.
