According to this blog post from a member of the Microsoft SQL express team, SQL express is a no no for a shared hosting environment,

 I know my web host doesn't allow the use of SQL Express and I know a few months ago webhost4life took away support for SQL express (probably had issues with it):  http://forums.asp.net/p/1222815/2248460.aspx

It depends though. SQL Express will still work on shared hosting environment, but it did have some limitations. In case you have a sql express database and you are looking for a hosting company, what I can advise you is that:

1. Register with us
2. Backup your sql express database into .BAK file format
3. Create SQL 2005 databse by using our control panel
4. Upload the .BAK file to the server and perform the restoration
5. Change your web.config file to point to our DB server
6. Done and you should be able to view your site on our server.
