Software Developer/Analyst

Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada
This is a permanent, full-time position working thirty-five (35) hours per week.
Two positions to be filled.
Accomplish specific assignments on an individual or co-operational basis; work on broad assignments and co-ordinate project through all aspects of the life cycle for development of systems design, program, database and file-format specifications, coding, testing and implementation of programs, prepare and complete documentation, provide training for in-house developed software and follow-up to ensure clients’ needs are met for all aspects of the Municipality. Research and recommend new technologies and languages to adapt to current or future requirements.
Qualifications:
- Two (2) year diploma program in Computer Science/Programming/Computer Information Systems (CIS) from a recognized Institute of Technology or equivalent combination of relevant experience with post secondary course work.
- Four (4) years of responsible experience as a Programmer Analyst, Software Developer/Analyst or Computer Programmer.
- Proficiency in a modern, object oriented programming language such as C#, Java, or VB.NET.
- Excellent understanding of object orientated coding methods and best practices.
Proficiency in HTML and web design principles.
- Extensive relational database experience using SQL.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Client-side script language JavaScript/ECMA script.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead and/or collaborate on projects with other developer/analysts, programmers, system integrators, and business process analysts in conceptualizing, designing, planning, and development of new software programs, applications and related data structures throughout the development life cycle.
- Responsible for the definition, development, and documentation of software’s business requirements, objectives, deliverables and specifications on a project-by-project basis in collaboration with internal users and departments.
- Assess, evaluate, and define, current and emerging GIS technologies to improve the performance for both visualization and analysis of web-based GIS applications.
Research GeoMedia WebMap with GeoMedia desktop applications and explore the capabilities of map server to assist the design and development of new web-based GIS features and functions.
- Provide GIS problem analysis, data interpretation, solution and web-GIS architecture development, coding and GIS application trouble shooting.
