Hi. I'm working to convince my manager to go with .NET instead of Java at my new job. I've been using ASP.NET for about 4 years now and love it. They have a few Windows 2003 servers that are ready for ASP.NET development and it would be great to get them on board for that. However, my manager said "You'd have to convince me why it's better to go with ASP.NET."

Can you point me to some articles that make powerful arguments as to why we should use ASP.NET instead of JSP/Java? There are some die-hard Unix/Java people in this department, so your help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

in JSP, if you have to deploy a servlet it is a pain in the neck, there is a loooooong deployment process and restarting the server. In .net you dont have all this issues. Looks lik you have a majority who are for java, why not take it up as a challenge and learn it as you work?

Thanks, topcatin. I know what you're saying; I just feel I'm going with a less capable technology in Java, one that is being eclipsed by all the extra features and the sheer number of organizations using .NET. Plus, I've put 4 years into learning/using .NET and it's become second nature to build .NET apps. But what I've also learned in life is, just when you get comfortable, life throws you a curve ball and you have to learn new skills.

if they are moving from .NET to java..you should ask them what makes Java so special that they are moving away from .NET.

But Java applications can work through any system. .NET can be picky at sometimes and may not work or be compatible with every other system.

But I have noticed JSP pages takes more time to load than aspx.

No, they're a Java/*nix shop. I'm trying to convince them to move to .NET. But like you said, it might be best to learn the technology they're using here instead of fighting the uphill battle. Also, and perhaps more importantly, it would be self-centered to switch them around to meet my programming needs/wants.

Thanks, ms_soft89. The replies on that discussion are excellent. Basically, they're saying that it never hurts to know both J2EE and .NET, though, personally, I prefer the ease-of-use functionality of .NET.
