I am also facing odp.net connection opening problem.

when i included oracle.dataaccess.dll in my code and i created the connection it's throwing error .

 i am getting error as " The type initializer for 'Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection' threw an exception." .

this is inner exception:- "The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client" System.Exception {Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException}

 this is stack trace: at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleInit.Initialize()\r\n at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection..cctor()" string .

if any body know the solution

please get back to me. please i am struck at this position..

 what version of oracle client you are using?

It looks that you are using different versions for the oracle.dataaccess.dll and the oracle client
