Hey all I just updated from 2005 to 2008 and I am running into some issues with VWD 2008 and I can not find any where on the web anyone else posting these issues and thought I would see if anyone else is having these problems.

When working in design mode any changes I make is not writen back to the source code of the page???....While in design mode and switching back and fourth I can see the changes I made in the design mode but no html or asp added in the source. There is no * placed on the page title I am working with either, it's like VWD doesn't see that I made changes. But I can see them in design mode, when I try to view the page in the browser it does not show the changes I made, and even if I save then close the page when I re-open it all changes are gone.

I read the hotfix released in April was supposed to address issues and bugs, but none of items listed in the bug fix was this issue, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to update, but guess what? the windows installer fails every time I try to apply the hot fix. So I updated the windows installer to the latest version, 3.1.x and re-booted, the hotfix still failed and I am still unable to work in designs mode of my pages, I need my design mode, the page is way to large to work in source code view.

    Any recommendations?

Can you be specific about the changes that you are making?  Can you provide an example that will reproduce the problem?

Just basic html/asp changes like adding in text, or a label or changing the text of a label adding a textbox anything that I add or change has just stoped updating in the source code.

To be honest, I can't say that I have seen this.  Do you have any problems with adding controls in the Source view?

No problems in source view, I can write html/asp to my hearts content and it all works well. I can go back to Design View and see all changes, can save and view in browser.

There was a window that poped up the first time I tried split view that asked if I wanted to sync the changes I had made in design view. I can not remember what I choose but I have never used split mode since. Any chance I messed something up there. I looked to see if I could find an option to choose some type of auto sync to see if that would correct my problem, but no luck.

I am thinking I will likely need to uninstall vwd and re-install, hopefully that will fix my problem. But I am still stuck with the hotfix not being able to update that unless the hotfix is included in the current download of vwd.

Changes in design view will automatically sync back to source.  Changes in source view will sync the next time you click in design view or manually by Ctrl+Shift+Y.  This particular behavior is not configurable so it might be another option that you encountered.

I am getting the same behavior. I will add a SQL Datasource in Design mode and switch to Source and it won't be there. I am using VWD 2008 Express Edition. I can add it in Source, but then when I go back to Design Mode and Configure Data Source, the changes I make to not update the Source code.

I have been unable to find any solution to this issue. I can sometime work through it by manually coding my html and asp in source mode but thats like going back in time 15 years so I am thinking the only fix I may potentially have left since my windows installer is also borked is possibly to re-format my C drive to try and get the windows installer working so at least I can patch VWD.

Some of my problem my be addressed in the patch for VWD where a lengthy html page has issues within.

Hi, all. I know this is not a popular solution but you should uninstall all versions of VWD Express and install VWD 2008 Express after the reboot of the PC.  There are so many intricacies involved in the Windows registry that I am certain that something did not install correctly.  Again, this is based on reading all of your posts and much prior experience in PC support.  I will not take offense if you disagree.  But I would really like to see you do this as I believe the application will install correctly and things will be much better so you can get back to doing the development that you love.

I've already un-installed and re-installed with no luck, same results. I can not apply any updates to my VWD due to my windows installer issue. Looks like it's re-format time for me :-(
