I am seeking information on using the silverlight control to create a simple slideshow where the images will slide in slowly one after the other and start over automatically. Is there any simple to understand information on this without learning everything about silverlight up front?

It isn't exactly the same as what you described, but you might want to take a look at this video and its associated code.  It shows a carousel application for scrolling through photos, and it ought to be a useful place to get started.
