Hi,

 I am trying to install visual studio 2008 on a new thinkpad t61 which i got and whenever i try to install visual studio 2008 my machine freezes..First i thought it was a problem with a dvd...so i returned the dvd and got a new one...and still it freezes...whenever i insert the dvd it just goes into freeze mode..I also thought that it was a problem with the machine...but all the other dvd's or cd's which have other softwares seems to be working..So please somebody please help me on this issue..

 What is the install dialogue showing?

 it shows no messages. Just freezes once i put the installation dvd in the dvd drive of my laptop.

The installer can take a moment to get going (with very limited UI) --- have you checked it isn;t just busy?

Otherwise, does the DVD work in other systems (bad media or drive that disagrees with the media). 

 it does work on my other machine..thanks for your reply. i tried also checking the processes to check if it is running..and suprising there is not any process running related to visual studio..

.Thanks for your help again...And let me know if i need to do any thing else. I am now trying to install all the windows updates and asp.net framework...and going to try to install again. to see if that could be a problem.

 Hi thanks for ur help. I finally got it installed...i had to go to the dvd drive in windows explorer, and then select properties (even before putting the visual studio 2008 dvd in the dvd drive), and then click on DLA tab and uncheck Enable DLA on your drives. And after that installation works.. Thanks for your help.
