Is this what a webservice would be good at handling?

    Hi.

I've been asked to help a friend who has a number of stag night websites (for different cities) - due to the developers he's had work on these in the past, some are in asp, some asp.net, some php - they all do pretty much the same thing (offer activities, and a contact email form, to book stag night activities in various cities).

What he's asked if I can put some thought into is, to have one central database/booking system - where he can put a dropdown on each of his sites, with a list of each of the other cities he covers, and accept a date of the stag party - if he has people available in a particular city, on the chosen date, to host the party, he wants to list it on the website where the person searched from (it could be from eg. Atlanta's stag website, but they may be searching for a stag night in Vegas).

My query is, is this what a webservice would be used for?  Is it practical to write some php/asp/asp.net/js which can be put on each of the different website, which will simply call a webservice on the central database site, which will a) list the cities available and b) search if a person is available to host (true) or not (false) for a particular date?

    Thanks for any advice,

    Mark
