I noticed a few books for those starting programming advertised on the asp.net site but if there were just two or three books or resources that cover a lot of programming concepts for someone starting out as a vb.net and asp.net programmer what would you recommend?
What books or materials did you find the most useful when you started out as a programmer. A few good books in order of difficulty would be much appreciated.
I’ve bought a few books only to discover that they are for intermediate level programmers or refer to terms I do not understand.
I suspect some books on XML and HTML are also very useful when learning a new language like VB.NET/Asp.net.
Thanks
Some great bits on here, be sure to check out the ebooks in the kids section one for vb.net and one for c# very good starter.
I think that it would help to understand xml and html first but you do not have to. You should find an overview of each on the above MS site.
One of the best ways to learn is to start out making simple projects.
Hope it helps

Jeremy

Thank you for mentioning the book "Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 in VB 2005 ". I had not seen that book, it appears to have good reviews. I think i may go ahead and purchase it.
thanks
I just started learning asp.net and programming in C# and out of all of the probably 30 or so books I've read only one met the the criteria for the absolute beginner. Asp.net 2.0 All in one Desk reference for Dummies 2006. This book covers every aspect of
learning asp.net 2.0 from basic HTML to CSS to database design to programming in vb.net or c# to asp.net server controls. One thing I love about this book is that it is a fun read. Imagine...a book on programming fun to read! It is full of comedy, great code
examples in C# and vb.net, and a wealth of explanations I never got in all the other books. The authors clearly understand their audience, which is not true in a dozen other books I read for the beginner!

Not a book recommendation, but also have a look at the VB Soup To Nuts and ASP Soup To Nuts series of webcasts.
