Hi Guys,

i'm trying to install Orcas Beta 1, followed all the instructions but still in mess may be i missed something. i removed march CTP. then started installing Beta 1, however i'm getting weird errors

its installing web authoring components which is first in list of all the components that will be installed, next is .net framework 3.5 which is the step where it crashes in my case.

i opened common problems page which comes with the installation i believe and there were some instruction which were like removing some components like compact framework 3.5 etc which i did.

then re-started the installation still getting same error. could you please tell me what i might be missing. i'm using Vista.

Please let me know.

It appears CTP did not fully uninstall. Try uninstalling all CTP components manually: Web Tools Components, Frameworks 3.0 and 3.5, etc before installing Beta1.

i retried the whole process. still same problem its giving error. i removed all the components installed on vista. there's no .net 3.X framework installed.

is there anything i'm missing out.

in vista there's one option for enabling/disabling windows components i disabled .net 3.0 there.

i wonder how many have successfully installed BETA on vista!!! are people using virtual PC or what.

please suggest what to do. i've spent 8hours on it CTP uninstall and install is not satisfactory thats fine but then installation of BETA is not at all working wonder its only case with me or with many,

I am having the same problem with the x64 install, on Vista Ultimate x64, it crashes every time at the same spot in DotNet Framework 3.5 x64 with a Fatal Error During Installation and error 1603 or 1602, but I didn't have the CTP installed so theres nothing to uninstall, I ran the CTP on a Virtual Machine.

I tried with the AV disabled and the firewall turned off, same result.

I'm stuck!!!

OK I installed the .NET framework v3.5 x64 Beta1 on its own,after downloading it from Microsoft. Then the VS insallation went through with no problem. seem like Microsoft knows about this issue.

Yep-yep-yep! Seems like we have to Install FrameWork3.5 first, only then  install the Orca beta.

I have exact same problem.
So i decided to Setup framework first, and then the orcas it self.

I'm sitting on Vista Ultimate 64 Bit
But I still don't know if any of SQLServer versions will work with 64 bit Vista!?
