    Hi All,

Sorry in advance that this post is so long.

We are looking for a long term hosting recommendation.

As a bit of background we have a Web Portal that we are about to launch. We developed it entirely in Asp.Net 2.0 using Sql Server. We have incorporated membership, profiles, and use file uploading, specific permission on directories through roles, etc. etc. Our app also generates subscription based mail outs. We may also want to offer reseller accounts, but that is not a priority.

Once our application gets some traction we anticipate hundreds, and eventually thousands, of concurrent users.

We have looked into shared hosting, virtual private servers, and dedicated hosting. Each has benefits and drawbacks. If we go with shared hosting (the simplest solution), we are not sure we will have to required control over the hosting options (directory permissions, etc). If we go with vps, we may get more control, but then it is a bit more complicated to set up and manage, and if we go dedicated (which I am not sure we are ready for) it is expensive.

We also would like to be able to stick with one hosting company as we grow (may not be possible?). We don’t want to move to the high end until our application has proven itself.

Having said all that, we have looked at the following and would like to know what kind of experiences other have had with them (or can recommend any others):

    -         discountASP (www.discountASP.net) – they seem to be the best at low end shared hosting (but large mail outs a problem), no vps or dedicated, not sure we can “grow” with them

    -         CrystalTech (www.crystalTech.com) – offer shared and dedicated (but large mail outs a problem)

    -         MaximumASP – (www.maximumasp.com) definitely more expensive (are they worth it?), offer shared, vps, and dedicated (large email outs may be a problem)

    -         Ultima (www.ultimahosts.net) – shared and vps, no dedicated

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Claude.

I like quick response times and engaged customer service.  Ultima gives me that.  I have both hosting and VPS there.  Very happy.

    Hello Claude,

If you anticipate hundreds and eventually thousands of concurrent users I'd  recommend going for a dedicated server solution, that's the only way to go if you want to be able to really GROW without having to switch servers or even hosting companies. I've been using centrixweb.com for over a year now and I've been very happy with their services, they helped me to get the server setup and they even manage the server for me, I just pay for the dedicated hosting service.. you can contact them and ask for a quote, their customer service is excellent...

    Have a great day!

    Alex
