Great site! Has been a great source for reference. Up until now, I only ever searched the site for answers... but today, I needed to post a question.
After I posted the question, a message appeared saying that it had to be approved by mods before it could get published. I'm just wondering what the average turn-around time is before a post is published? I've searched the site, but can't find any details
on this...
We're glad that you find it a useful resource! Microsoft and the moderators have been working hard to make the forums interesting and useful.
The time to approval of a post depends on when a moderator gets to it. While many are approved in minutes, I'm afraid that sometimes it can take a few hours. There is lots of variation, though. Even though we have moderators around the world in most time
zones, most are concentrated in the U.S. so posts tend to get approved more quickly during geek hours in the U.S. There tends to be lulls in moderator activity during the day, such as around early to mid afternoon Easter time. And often I'll log in to find
many, many posts waiting in the queue, so it can take a while to get through them.
The forum managers took steps recently to reduce the time, such as by requiring moderation only for the first post in a thread, relying on moderators and users to report problems with replies. And we're constantly adding new moderators.
Also, after you have a good posting history, you will be unmoderated. There are no strict guidelines for that, but once you have posted several dozen to a few hundred posts and the bulk are useful questions or responses, and you don't have a history of insults
and flame wars, you're likely to be unmoderated.
