Microsoft has released the next version of the CSS Friendly ASP.NET 2.0 Control Adapter kit Beta 2.0.

Lots of bugs have been fixed and many features were added including:

  • More adapters
  • Menu adapter now supports:
  • TreeView adapter now supports
  • Still, not everything could be addressed:

  • The sample adapters for DetailsView and FormView render content using an unordered list (UL tag). There are good reasons to consider using a definition list (DL tag) instead. This change is still being considered and may be implemented before the final release of this kit.
  • The Menu property StaticDisplayLevels is ignored by the sample menu adapter.
  • When the sample adapters are in use, superfluous and old-fashioned styles are still sometimes added to the page's HEAD. These styles come from deep within the framework and are difficult to prevent. Though it would be best if they didn't exist on the page since they are superfluous, they are basically harmless.
  • The sample FormView adapter doesn't properly refresh itself when bound to the last record in a dataset and that record is subsequently deleted. See, http://forums.asp.net/thread/1297080.aspx.
  • Several accessibility improvements are being considered before the final version of the kit is released: skip navigation links, access keys, better navigation via tabbing (especially for menus and trees).
  • The sample CreateUserWizard adapter does not support extra wizard steps or navigation templates.
  • Your continued patience is appreciated. We hope to address the most critical issues in another update. Meanwhile, we hope you enjoy what we're releasing today.

    With kindest regards,

    Russ,

Many people already use the CSS friendly adapters, Like I do. Despite the fact they're defined as "Beta", could you please make (or if it already exists, direct me to) a registration page that takes email addresses and sends updates such as this? I don't want any more SPAM in my inbox, but the move from Beta 1.1 to Beta 2.0 (and later 2.1 or whatever) is a message I'd appreciate receiving.

Nice to hear from you again, Angel Eyes.

Offhand, I don't know of a way to accomplish what you asked: email notification of releases like this one in the future.  However, I do think it is a good idea so I've forwarded it along to 3 of the key folks at MS who might know if there is, in fact, such a facility in place already.  Let's see what they say...

    Best regards,

    Thank you, Russ.

Hard to believe it's a technical difficulty, though. Many blogs have a system where u put in your address and get notified of new posts. My idea was hardly original.

You're right, this is not a technical issue but we don't, from a process perspective, setup registration systems for individual toolkit or utility projects (e.g., there's no registration/notification system for the "Atlas").  If you want to stay informed of these types of releases, I highly recommend subscribing to Scott Guthries blog where he routinely announces important things related to ASP.NET including the availability of the CSS adaptes Beta 2.

If you absolutely want that information in your e-mail inbox, I recommend using RSS aggregator Squeet.com.
