Hello dears,

I m a new member to this forum. I am using classifed starter kit. i have been facing a lot of problems while hosting this site. i havent got the good webhosting site. Recently i purchased webspace from manashosting.com but they didnt give the interface to create or edit or change the name of the database.

Plz. tell me the best web hosting site where i can host my classifed starter kit .

Not quite a bug, but multiple ads submitted at the same time.

Has anyone noticed that when you post an ad with the classifieds starter quite,

at the end when it says it's successful, and you can now upload photos.

If you hit refresh there instead of navigating away or to upload photos, it will post another ad to the database.

Does anyone know of a way to not allow refresh on that page?

It's obviously not a big problem, just one of those fine tuning things.

If I figure it out on my own I'll post it back here.

So I made a working bit of code (javascript) to validate a Terms Of Use checkbox.

When the checkbox and CustomValidator are inside The "CreateUserWizard" form It won't work.

Outside it, there's no problems. My code is:

I've been trying to write some Visual Basic in the code behind that I can use,

but it's not working, no matter what I do it pulls up the error as though the checkbox is unchecked.

Hi there!

Is it possible to have different background colors in the dropdownlist? One color for main categories and another color for subcategories..

I would be very happy if someone could tell me how its done, and were to put the code :)

I also want to change the listing order of the categories, I dont want to have from A-Z, I want to change it manually if its possible...

Hello there! Can someone tell me how to change the url field to plain text. I want to use that field so the user can type their city there instead of a url link. Or perhaps it woluld be cool to keep the url functon and forward the city name to a extern "find location page" like google maps :-) I also want to use swedish characters åäö in the city name.. I want to add an image to each Category in the Category Browse section on the home page. Here is the code on the CategoryBrowse.ascx usercontrol. The image box is appearing but no image.

I think, we had enough of progress on Classified starter Kit based on Web Forms.

Its time to move ahead with the future and that would be to convert the classified starter kit to Asp.Net MVC Classified Starter Kit. It would be much easier to maintain and extends with Controller. I mean C from MVC

Act Right now, before its late and the charm is lost.

ASP Starter Kit Classified Categories table

Hello, sorry for posting here but the other post might of not been in the right spot.

I am wondering about the Classified Starter Kit Table Categories. The table is structured as below:

Id
ParentCategoryId
Path
Name
NumActiveAds

I am wondering what is the "Path" used for in the table? In Path, it seems the Id value is stored as a varchar. The value looks like .1. .2. .3. .4. and so on. I would really appreciate if anyone could explain. Thank you.r

The project type is invalid for your installation of Visual Studio.

Add image to Category listing

I would like to add an image to the Category listing on the home page. So instead of just the text, there would be a pic of the category itself. My code is VB.

I have been fighting with an error message since I moved my solution onto my hosted servers. I have been able to resolve most of my membership errors. I have had to move both databases (Membership and Classifieds) out of the App_data folder and on an actual SQL server. I have edited my connection strings to point to the new SQL servers. Everything else seems to be working fine so far, but after I log in and go to the "My Ads & Profile" tab, I get the following error:

SQLExpress database file auto-creation error:




The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:




If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist.
If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server accounts credentials are used when creating the new database.
Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine.
The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts.

I created the databases, and put the connectionstring in the web.config. Godaddy confirmed they are correct. I put the Classifieds project in a folder called "classifieds1" under the root of my domain name.

Beginner wanted to start a small property listing portal

Hi All

I am beginner with some knowledge in Asp and VB but now very very rusty. I would like to create my own portal which will allow me to list properties I have to rent and rooms. Would be useful if people could register on the portal to search properties. Can anyone point in the right direction, just want to start something off myself even if its limited but would be ideal if the starter kit had scope for plenty of other functionality and features as I try to grow the community using the portal.

At some stage I will need the assiatnce of a competent and qualified developer so would be grateful for any tips and advice on where to look and start.

The URLs are still like this:

Category Page: http://localhost:1332/Classified/Search.aspx?c=3 (Need Category name in the url)

Search Page: http://localhost:1332/Classified/Search.aspx (want search term / query in the url)

Please help.
